From Catherines post about food prices:
**Our food is comparable to all of other similar games, and in some cases cheaper.
In most cases your food is more expensive.
ANSWER: That is an incorrect statement. We did plenty of comparisons and when to you take everything into consideration, we always come up relatively the same or slightly cheaper.>
**We sell no tiered food products that provide stat bonuses.
All these products are a service the other breedable give to the breeders, you can buy it but you DO NOT have to.
ANSWER: The statement remains a fact. We sell no tiered food that gives stat bonus advantages to players with more money. We don't offer it as an option. We won't ever. All that required for a Meeroo is food.
**We sell no medicine as your Meeroos never get sick
Ok, the roos don't get sick but they run away and you have to buy a whistle to get it back for 350 L$ which is again one of the most expensive in the breedable world.
ANSWER: This is a product that is a sevice that we offer to the players. You can buy it but you DO NOT have to :)
**We sell no fertility potions
Same as stats bonuses, you can buy it if you want to but you DO NOT have to.
**We sell no happiness totems
See above, thats not a reason to have higher priced food.
ANSWER: Our food is priced comparably. It has been since release. It won't go up. It won't go down. Our research and development led us to that price point very early on. It is fair in exchange for the multifaceted service and support we provide. Our food is not higher priced by any means.
**We sell no vitamins or anything else.
Again, no reason to sell your food higher priced as all these boosters people don't have to use.
**We sell very few starter packs because, as we expected and is intended, people are buying Meeroos from other players, not from us.
You made tons of people buy the starters when the lottery was going on and you will make us buy new ones again with the extension. That is not different than any other breedable.
ANSWER: We didn't make anyone purchase anything. As stated many times before, we did not anticipate that for of gameplay and when we discovered it we reacted accordingly. The expansion is NOT a genetics update. genetics updates are free. The Expansion is a storyline update.
**We don't run or benefit from any secondary market sales.
No breedable does that.
ANSWER: I never stated they did. I said we didn't.
**We don't put out special editions every week. We've released our dryads one time as a character from the story and heavily debated whether to do that or not.
I don't know ONE breedable who released special editions every week, think you have to do some better market research.
ANSWER: Perhaps you should read more carefully. I didn't say anyone else did. I didn't draw a comparison to another breedable. We're much more than a breeding game. I stated quite clearly what we didn't do, not what someone else did.
**We sell food and stumps. That's the bulk of our salable product.
**I'm increasingly amazing at the amount of players who ask us to reduce the cost of food, which is 63 Lindens a month for 1 meeroo. That is 26 US cents.
Ok, here I am really confused, as far as I know the food is 225 L$ (approx 90 cents) for one roo and one month, which is the most expensive food for breedables in SL.
ANSWER: The bowl Berry bowl is 63 Lindens. That feeds one meeroo for a a week. That equals 26 cents. The Berry Basket, which is the 225 dish you reference, feeds one Meeroo for a month. Neither of these are above current industry costs and is how we pay our bills.
It even is more expensive than it looks like as all other breedables have a loyalty program when people send their pets in they get points with them they can buy free food etc.
It's actually not more expensive. Just to reiterate. But, Again, we are not all other breedables. The misconception you suffer from is that we created a simple breeding game. Our virtual pets do much more than breed and stand to do a lot more in the future. Calling us a "Breedable" really diminishes the hard work and time we've invested in the story and the animations, the collectables, the oracle. I suppose for some others, its equally fair to call it a trivia game, no?"
All you give with your regards is the opportunity to buy overpriced regard shop items. No other breedable did try to sell some statue of its breedable for 4000 lindens
ANSWER: Again, we're not trying to emulate any breedable maker and shouldn't have to be expected to defend ourselves for being an independent, or for being unique. Our statues are contracted by a third party and relevant to our lore. They are limited in availability and will be retired. They are collectables. Certainly they are not for everyone, some people enjoy them, some people are indifferent. That's okay. It is not a mandatory purchase. As you've said, it's a service we offer to people. They DO NOT have to buy them. The regard items went on hold due to the autopetter issue.
Also you have to get different food for different roos, which when you sell a roo can be expensive as you have food you dont need anymore.
ANSWER: What I'm hearing you say here is that you want to make money selling meeroos, but you don't want us, the makers, to have the right to. I think that pretty much sums up your post. In reality, you can take and share food with friends or fellowship members if you have a specific kind of food, and no meeroo that eats it because you've sold it. The diverse food selection is relevant to the Meeroos ecological environment of origin. It's a part of their existence we chose to stay true to.
Of course I take everything back if the food cost are really 63 L$ per month and per roo and I got it wrong.
You did not get it wrong. I did, and I'm happy to clarify. It is 63L per week for one meeroo. You are absolutely correct!
