The New LE's - JMHO

StarSong Bright's picture

I think the new LEs are going to be great. The price is excellent IMO. I saw many people whining and gnashing their teeth *quaking, oh the end is near and the market is ruined, woe is me* to which I just have to say, hold up folks, you are looking at this ALL WRONG.

The forums have been replete with despondence, "all i get is red...i get no traits from the starters i began with...bleck bleck bleck". Here is a chance to get some NEW blood in your hoard cheaply and cutely. They are far better looking than the average fawn or winecoat. According to a followup comment in the original blog post, ears and tails should pass (just not eyes or coat of the LEs). So who knows, you could be adding tiger ear genes to your genepool for a mere 300 lindens. Why on EARTH is anyone complaining about that?!

If you look at the 6 pack starter kit - its 5100 lindens - figure 1200 of that price is the food, another 500 is the two included stumps. So, 3400 lindens is the price for 6 nests - 566 each. Since at this point established players have the stumps they need and can deal with buying food.. this is the VERY best deal going for new starter blood, a savings of 266 lindens each and no extra spent on stumps and trunks. Frankly, I am very surprised they aren't charging double (600) for these new babies, but I am sure not going to complain!

But *gasp* you may say about the market. Well the average price of a plain ol nest is circa 300 - some more and some less of course. Yes, this will funnel some money in the creators pockets, but that's the nature of the beast, of ALL breedable beasts so far. This is a killer deal for us. Will it flood the market, probably so, but at least it will flood it with interesting new looking roos, and not the fawns and wineskins and reds.

Remember too that the breeding span is only 60 days - an eyeblink. These new LE coats may pull some new people in meeroos - there ARE some people who just like to have pets and not breed them the livelong day for this trait or that. The price combined with the meepet option may well bring a whole new population to have a look at roos.

So peeps, please, the sky is NOT falling. Those *other new pets* out there have not killed the meeroo market. These new LEs are not going to kill the market. What kills any market is everyone whining and gnashing and full of angst "at the market". I have been doing a VERY good business in meeroos... and the price point that does best for me is 500-1000 lindens a pop. It is ridiculous to assume that just because someone wont spend a hundred bucks in rl money on ONE digital pet does NOT mean that the market is dead. Are you going to get 1k for that plain little second gen fawn bundle in your inventory? NO, release it for the points, or stick it in a prim time capsule and lose it in your inventory.

It is the expectation that everybody (or at least you) has to get rich for the market to be any good that ruins breedable markets. So what if there are quickly 150 linden LEs on the market? New peeps will have cheap buy in, and honestly, do you think an experienced breeder, looking for pedigree and whatnot is NOT going to buy your higher priced roo to get what she wants? So... I will get off my soap box now. There is room for all of it in my humble opinion. So folks, stop the panic!
