I posted in another thread about some of the terms used in the secondary market, that could be considered misleading to less informed players and that we could compile a glossary of terms. As the thread was not about this I thought it unfair to hijack it further, so I am starting this thread. I know it is not strictly genetics but there is no other place for it to go. Sylvana said she did a knowledge thread for her last breedable so I thought it could be included here too.
So I am asking that everyone post any terms that they think should be included, with a definition. Advice or knowledge that would help the beginner, that is not already posted in the FAQ. Whilst the glossary should be created by consensus, please don't spam the thread. Could we please just post ideas, words and definitions. If you disagree with a definition, please post you alternative. We can then distill the knowledge from the debate and ask Allatu to sticky it.
Thanks for your help.
1st Gen Pure = Both parents have visible coat / trait
2nd Gen Pure = All 4 grand parents and both parents have visible coat / trait
3rd gen pure = All 8 Great grand parents, 4 grand parents and both parents have visible coat / trait
etc..
Offspring = One or both parents have visible coat / trait
Descendant = Direct parent / grand parent etc. has visible coat / trait
Indirect descendant = Indirect relative or sibling etc. has visible coat / trait
(the word carrier was removed at the suggestion of Chilali)
Carrier = Live meeroo that does not have the trait visible, but does pass the trait to its offspring.
(Inspired by Chilali's post - I think this might need refining)
Trait bucket = Meeroo with multiple traits in its genetic line. (included reluctantly as meeroo mayhem points out is a recognised term in horse auctions, I do feel it could be clarified or standardised)
over to you guys...
