Lets talk Alleles!

I've been working to track some time now with my roos on which allele sets are connected. I think being able to identify which traits are connected will be a huge step in the right direction of furthering our breeding tactics.

from what i am noticing, the coat, eyes and ears seem to be connected, leaving the head, hair and tail as the second set. i am still not exactly sure where personality comes into play and may have some level of dominance in personality which decides who passes which set but that's still a theory lol.

I've also been working more towards breeding within the hierarchy of coat progression taking up the the idea of breeding any coat within one level of itself.

for example, winecoat with fawn, ursine, autumn, koi, painted ect. all of those coats are either the first progression of a species or are within one level up from it. (you could go back too)

from what i see trait sets are either passed in dominance or recessive. so mother could pass coat, ears, eyes recessive and father could pass head, hair, tail dominant.

what would be interesting to see is if others could take a look at their meeroos and track the lineage, looking to see if these trait sets are connected.

so if you have a female with short ears/short tail and she can only pass on one set or the other then she will never pass a short ears/short tail because she cannot pass from both trait sets.

i don't think this trait set theory is perfect by any means yet but i am noticing interesting results. it's helped give me a better idea on what recessive traits specific meeroos may have because of the fact that i can identify which set was passed from who.
