Has anybody else set out to breed a particular roo with the traits and coat they really like? I decide on week 2 I wanted a monsoon clear short eared Highlander.
I started a line first of monsoon clears, keeping all the nests so I had various personalities and both sexes.
When short ears turned up in a nest I bred that in a line and today I finally got it into my line of giants. Yup, I got a short eared monsoon fawn.
I saw a giant highlander last week and decided living instant noodles for a week was entirely healthy and bought it and a mate for it. Today they rewarded me with....an Amber. But I wont complain as it was the perfect match for the one I had and couldn't afford a mate for.Hopefully next week they will give me a highlander giant and I'll be one step closer again to that perfect roo.
My other other project was to get a short eared capri clear red 00 teacup. The oracle must be smiling on me as I got a fawn capri clear with short ears this week. Now I just have to shift those traits into a red coat.
Line breeding does work,it takes patience and don't expect the result you want on the first nest, it took 3 weeks for the ears to show on the tea cups from the same pairing.
