Regard Changes Making Nests Worse

Mio's picture

I have a very strong giant line with lunar eyes.

I've been breeding them specifically for the size and the eye color for quite a while now, and until recently, all my giants have given me giants with lunar eyes, and I was happy! I was getting what I set out to create with every nest and I felt like I was really accomplishing something. Sure, they might not have been Kois, but they were my specifically bred Giants with Lunar eyes, and I was proud.

Then the regard 'improvements' come in to play.

And well, what do ya know, suddenly my giants think it's funny to toss me large after large after large. The lunar eyes are still intact, which I'm happy about, but you'd think a pair who only gave you giants would continue to give you giants. But no, apparently now they see fit to give me larges.

I've kept these giants all within 'the family' as it were, breeding uncles with nieces in order to keep the line strong and be able to account for each 'rouge' trait that might pop out. I've only added one 'outside' roo into the family at the third generation and really, if all these new babies are pulling from THIS SINGLE ROO'S PARENTS, then something is terribly wrong.

I invite you guys to creep through my Giant's family tree.

This is my highest gen nest from these guys, the first for the parents as you can see:

I can understand this as they were still rather low in their regard, but still it's rather upsetting that two roos from such a strong line would toss a large like that.

And this is a nest I just got today from a pair that has given me nothing but giants - three of them in a row actually - before the changes were made.

As you can see, the Lunar eyes is as strong as ever, but what happened to the size? I thought everyone knew how to get a certain size. You just pair up two roos of the same size (who come from similar background in size) and voila! A baby with the same size of its parents.

So what have I done wrong? Maybe inbreeding isn't good for roos at ALL? Maybe I should be putting new blood in with each new generation? I honestly have no idea, but I'm getting upset with how these changes have mess up my giant line. I don't want anything fancy to pop out of my roos, I just expect giants to come from strong giants, that's all. But maybe I was expecting too much.

Who knows?
