Genetics

A place to discuss the genetics of meeroos.

this has gotten my curiousity:

"I seek a Watcher." she said. "I bid you four my Messengers. From the four corners of this plain you will observe, and when danger appears to the Meeroo kind you shall manifest and say what you have seen."

these are what is coming:

Lets talk Alleles!

I've been working to track some time now with my roos on which allele sets are connected. I think being able to identify which traits are connected will be a huge step in the right direction of furthering our breeding tactics.

from what i am noticing, the coat, eyes and ears seem to be connected, leaving the head, hair and tail as the second set. i am still not exactly sure where personality comes into play and may have some level of dominance in personality which decides who passes which set but that's still a theory lol.

Has anyone figured out how the meeroos pass their short tail/short ear – as to who passes what?

Does the female pass the tail better or the ears better? Does the male pass the tail better or the ears better?

I’m trying to breed a double short and have about 4 short tail males and 2 short ear females and 2 short ear males. Given that they are not related and are the same personalities, what would be the best way to breed these?

I was wondering if there were certain eyes more dominant relative to certain coats. My own roos are not large enough nor far down the road long enough to really test this theory out.

Would be curious as to other peoples finds.

What would you do?

Ok, so I was able to secure a really super cheap nest this morning. I mean, change you would find in the couch kinda cheap, and I'm looking for some advice on how best to move forward, as far as breeding goes.

The nest itself is nothing special. It's a winecoat with a short tail. That's it and that's all. The parents are nothing special either, simply plain winecoats with no visible traits.

But... the great grandfather on the mother's side has fluff and chest, and the great grandmother on the mother's side has bushy tail.

Siblings of Rares?

As anyone had any luck with pulling rares from siblings of rares that come from 2 "normal" roos (not an offspring, only a sibling)?

Just an example would be:
Parents: Winecoat and Fawn

Baby 1: Tiger Ear (Any rare coat or trait)
Baby 2: Normal Ear (Normal coat or trait)
or
Baby 1: Cinder
Baby 2: Winecoat
Baby 3: Caledonian

Has anyone had "Baby 2" or Baby 2 Offspring produce the rare trait?

Sorry if I am misspelling things, I am not native english;)

I been studing my (and others) meeroos, and besides the fact family linage is a big factor in breeding, I also came to the conclusion there is also a hyarchy they follow.

E.g. from low to high:
Gael Coats->Fawn->Ursine->Red->Caledonia->Highland->Loch
Pine Coats->Winecoat->Autumn->Sierra->Amber->Cinder->Snowpaw
Masked Coats->Koi->Emperor->Azure->Kabuki->Sakura->Geisha
Nile Coats->xxxx->Painted->Jubilee->West.Desert->Dune ?
Savana Coats->xxx->xxxx->Zulu->Terracotta->???->???

Okay i have read some of the posts about genetics through out the meeroos, we all know that commons sense tells us if you breed highland and highland, nine times out of ten you are going to get a highland coat. so my biggest question is how does the coat and the genetics play a big factor in wat comes from the parents.

thank you
